The Government Wants Us to Watch Jersey Shore...

(from the mouths of 8th graders)

One of the things that I love most about teaching middle school is the fact that the kiddos are starting to form their own opinions on pretty big subjects. They are beginning to see that life is big. However, sometimes their thoughts aren't quite thought out. Here is what I have been laughing at lately.

My students always ask me if I have seen certain music videos. My standard response is " I don't watch music videos now that they aren't on MTV." One kid asked if that what the M stood for in MTV. I said, "yes it stands for music and back in the day the majority of what they showed was music videos. Now all they show is Jersey Shore and Teen Mom."

He responded: "That's the government. They are always messing with good things."
I wanted to be clear before I laughed at him (in my head of course): "So your saying the government wants MTV to play Jersey Shore reruns, so we all have to watch it?"
"Yes."

So there you go, the government wants us to watch Jersey Shore and MTV. I know it's true, because an 8th grader told me so.

Why I Blog..

For the last week or so Casey (yes! another girl Casey!) has had guest posts sharing why they blog. Today she has invited all of us to share our reasons, and to link up.

 Why We Blog Week

I first discovered the world of blogs (besides for celebrity gossip blogs) when I was planning my wedding. I felt like I was apart of all of these women's lives. A wedding is a really personal event, and I felt like I knew these women. They were funny and real. I didn't do a lot of commenting or anything, but when I did send an email, they were so wonderful with their responses to my questions. After the wedding, I found newlywed blogs, and then a little over a year after our wedding I wrote this post.

So, why did I start? I have always enjoyed writing and journaling. I wanted a place I could vent, share my crafts and what ever else was going on. I remembered feeling like I knew the women (whose blogs I read) and I wanted to get to know them better, and maybe, just maybe, they might like me too :)

This blog serves as a diary, a sounding board, and a way for me to reach out to other people. The Mister and I have some pretty different interests, and this blog lets me share my love of crafts and food with other people, instead of talking to my husband about how I DIY'ed my new project or what ingredients I used in dinner. (Don't get me wrong, he supports my projects, he just doesn't care about need to know the details.)

This blog has also allowed me to "meet" some fabulous other bloggers. These link-ups have been a fun way to be exposed to other blogs, and to get some exposure. My blog has grown slowly (as far as followers) but that's okay. This blog is for me, of course I want people to read it, because it is the community that makes blogging so much fun.

Why do you blog?

Mid Week Confessions

I wasn't going to post confessions this week, but now that its Wednesday night, I think I NEED to, plus I just saw E's warning that confessions aren't happening next week.

Tonight, on my way home from the gym, I had to run to the grocery store to pick up a couple things for dinner. As I was walking in a woman and her young son were behind me. I heard the little guy say "Mom, how come you said I couldn't wear my jammies to the store. That lady is in her jammies and she must have just got out of the bath, cuz she's all wet." It made me laugh, but then I started thinking about how gross and sweaty I must have been for a kid to think I just got out of the bath.

I like to let my cat under the covers on our bed even though the Mister HATES it.

During my prep period today I had to run to the Dollar Store to buy some supplies. While I was there I remembered a Pinterest craft I saw, so I picked up all the supplies for it. I kind of felt like I was breaking the rules. But not enough to put the extra stuff back. (I did pay for it on a separate receipt.)

I am counting down until April 20th when The Lucky One comes out. When did Zac Efron grow up and get so freaking hot??

I really hate when I go to comment on some one's blog and I have to prove I'm not a robot.

I tried to purge my clothes last weekend. My thought was I would give a bunch to Goodwill, then have space to buy more clothes. I got rid of like 3 bags, but it doesn't look empty enough to justify a shopping spree.

What are you confessing?

2012 Goals- An Update

Seriously? It is already April? That means a quarter of the year has passed already. Yikes! Not to sound like a cliche or anything, but time is flying by! At the beginning of the year, I posted some goals for 2012. I haven't updated how I have been doing on them, so I figure now is as good a time as any!

enjoy
Go on a big vacation. Go on a little vacation. Go to 3 new places in Oregon. Read 12 books for fun. Get a make over.
We have booked our place for our summer vacation to Kauai! I am so excited for August to come. I also have been reading the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evonavich. I highly recommend them! I have finished 17 of them, and am working on number 18 right now. So, I guess that one can be checked off!
create
Learn to sew. Make one thing a month. Give some homemade gifts.
I have been sewing some things. I took a beginners class at JoAnn's, but mostly I have been teaching myself. As far as making one thing a month, I made some baby shower gifts, pillows and I finished reupholstering my settee. Maybe not exactly one a month, but I will take 3 things in 3 months. I was also gave away gifts, so I feel like I am doing pretty well on this one.

home
Finish painting the house. Install flooring. Get on a regular cleaning schedule. Put up shelves in kitchen. Put up something on our walls in the living room (gallery wall?). Do something with the "entry."
We painted the hallway, but I think we will repaint it. We also bought the paint for the bedroom. The floors went in last week. That's pretty much it.

cook
Make a new recipe every month. Learn how to can. Take a cooking class.
Um, I'm not doing very well at this one. I do have two new recipes planned for this week.

save
Put 10% of my paycheck into savings each month. Get a CD through our credit union. "Want" purchases of more than $20 go on a 30 day wait list.
10% each month goes into savings. That is something to pat myself on the back for. I sort of started a "want" list, but I haven't been sticking to it.

health
Train for and complete the Rock-n-Roll Half in May. Get a massage. Work out 12-15 hours a month.
I registered for the RnR, but I haven't started my training. Yikes! I was working out pretty regularly, but I need to get my booty in gear, especially for our Hawaii vacation.

misc.
Send thank-you notes and birthday cards regularly. Finish changing my name. Take Gus to a dog class.
Nope. Nothing.

Do you set goals? How are you doing on them?
