Pinterest Challenge: A wedding craft for Christmas and a BONUS pin!

I've documented my love of Pinterest here  and here. I've done my fair share of Pinterest projects. From food to crafts to even more Halloween crafts, and I still am finding more inspiration. This week, Sherry, from Young House Love and Katie from Bower Power are hosting a Pinterest Challenge. Basically, take a break from pinning, and start doing. This is there winter season challenge, so I am expecting a lot of Holiday themed crafts. This one is no exception. This is actually one of the first things I ever pinned:

At the time, I was a little bummed because I distinctly remembering having to do some word of mouth invites to our wedding because we had ran out of invitations (oh dear!). But, this was meant to be on our tree this year, because when I cleaned out the spare room, I found 3 wedding invitations.

The Materials:

• 1 clear Christmas ornament ball $1.99
• 2 wedding invites
• 1/4 piece of coordinating paper- this was left over from wedding crafts
• paper cutter
• ribbon (Originally, my idea was to use ribbon from my bouquet, but after looking at it, it was kind of gross from being in water for a while. Instead, I used ribbon from the ring bearers pillow)
• decorative charm- I used the ring The Mister proposed with. It is a plastic pink heart ring that he got from Wal-Mart. It came in a set, and I used it as well as the silver band on our ring bearer pillow  

Start by cutting the invitations into thin strips. I was careful to make sure the important info wasn't cut up. Then, wrap it around a pen to create the corkscrew effect. I did the same thing with the green paper as well.

After all of the paper is cut and curled, start filling the ornament. Add the bow and the charm if you want.

I love how this turned out! I cannot wait until the day after Thanksgiving when I decorate for Christmas to get this bad boy out and put it up. I love how the important words peek through, and that my first engagement ring can be displayed again.  If I wanted to be picky, I might go and buy a smaller ornament, and redo it, so it looks a bit fuller, and I would re-tie that bow. That I probably will do. I've never been able to tie a good bow. This would be a really easy and personal wedding gift for someone (I think that was the original posters craft). You could also use a birth announcement and give it as a present for babies first Christmas.

If you have spent anytime at all on this little blog, you may have noticed I am not the most organized person. Unfortunately, that bad habit follows me to work. Student areas are organized, and classroom procedures are set, BUT my desk at work is another story. Here is a picture to prove my point.

A dish rack to hold files! Genius! AND I had a dish rack at our house that we never use. So I brought it in and now:

Aah! It was simple, free and hopefully it will keep me organized. There is a whole story about those folders I will post later. It involves me getting beat up by the laminator machine thing.
