I have been wanting a pair of tall, leather riding boots for a while now. There are a couple of things holding me back- 1) I am sort of cheap and the nice ones are expensive and cheap ones are uncomfortable. And 2) I have what I like to call "power calves." (some people call them athletic, some people call them fatty fat fat) Those two things make it difficult to own a pair of beautiful tall boots.
Then came Christmas. My father-in-law gifted me with a very generous Nordstrom gift card. Then after Christmas Nordy's had a boot sale. See the graphic below to see how I felt about it.
After
Nordstrom.com Don't fall in love with them. They have a very limited selection of sizes left. |
And almost cried. (Well, not really. But I was super bummed.)
They didn't fit over my stupid calves. The next day I took them to Nordstrom holding out hope that they might be able to stretch the calves. After learning that it wasn't really going to be an option, I reluctantly returned them. I also tried on several pairs of boots, but none of them lived up to the beauties you see above. (Nordstrom has a fantastic return policy if you don't know. They put all of it on my debit card instead of some on a gift card and some on my debit card.) I sadly left and went to Macy's to see what they had in stock. I was prepared to be disappointed.
A woman who also had power calves was trying on boots. She also happened to be my same shoe size. (How is that for coincidence?) I tried on a few of the pairs that she also had, and still none of them were what I wanted. And then I saw one last pair. It looked very similar to the pair I had returned, except for a little stretchy panel It was the same pair I had just returned to to Nordstrom, but in the extended calf variety!!

YAY!!! I am so glad you got the pair that you love. :) I am obsessed with the boots I got from Nordstrom...and for 50% off they are even better haha.
GAH, is there anything worse than boot problems!?!?
I'm glad you finally finally finally found some!!!! :)
This makes me so happy for you. A good pair of boots is necessary :)
Hurray for Christmas boots!! Although "Boo!" to the problems of finding the right pair!
Boots were my Christmas present too. I had envisioned a tall pair of riding boots as well, and we searched practically every store in the mall, only to decide in the end that I look ridiculous in knee-high riding boots. I guess I'm on the short side, and I have the opposite problem, unusually small calves, so I looked like I was drowning or wading through puddles in boots that were way too big for me.
So I eventually went with boots that only came up to my mid-calf, and those didn't look nearly so disproportional.
I have the exact same problem. I just recently got my first pair for Christmas.
My mom is an avid QVC watcher and they always have the wide calf variety of boots. You might check there in the future!!
Yay for cute tall boots!!!
Girl, I have big and also claustrophobic calves. I'm just not a tall boot girl. The ones I do have have the stretch panel in them.
I love the ones you got! They look fabulous.
I've got the same problem. I fell in love with Frye boots on the internet and decided to order a pair, and when they came in they were insanely tight, like leaving marks on my skin tight. But, since I got the one pair and size for $70 off I decided to keep them and they've stretched out pretty well.
Yay for finding a great pair of boots! :) AND I LOVE the title of this post!
That's awesome! Those are really cute. Finding the right boots (that don't cost an arm and a leg) is such a hard thing!
all of my boots have a stretchy panel at the back or side otherwise the zipper would never go up! i'm glad that i'm not the only woman who struggles with power calves!
those boots are beautiful; i love the rich color.
I have the same boot problem! We have a Nordstrom's Rack near us, so I'm thinking I will have to check it out! Following you via GFC and Twitter :)
