First the Crappies:
Wednesday I took the day off work to go work on my mom's estate and work on getting the sale ready. Several of you commented the other day on what a big task this is... trust me I know. It's not my first choice. We had a couple companies come in, and one said that after their commission, we really wouldn't make much money. After talking it over with the family, we decided to try to do it ourselves. I guess this is a good idea...Any ways, mom's house is a little over an hour away, so when I go up there, I hope to spend a good amount of time working. As I put the key in the door, I heard an alarm going off. I found the fire alarm ringing and I smelled gas. I freaked out and called the gas company. After the guy came, ran his tests etc. he told me there wasn't a gas leak and the fire alarm was probably just shorting out. That really took all the wind out of my sails, so I just drove back home. A waste of a day.
Writing sub plans is awful business. I couldn't even imagine how an elementary teacher does it. At least my one lesson that I write gets used over and over again.
Do you know whats worse than writing sub plans? Coming back and realizing they really didn't get followed. Ugh. #shouldhavejustshownavideo
My students turned in a paper before winter break. I still haven't finished grading them. I have even brought them home twice. Which didn't mean anything, since I didn't touch them. #teacherfail
Now the happies:
I am rocking on my 13 in '13. I don't want to jinx it, but I haven't forgotten them (always a plus) and I am making progress. I am hoping to post an update at the end of the month.
I love getting paid to workout! I am teaching Zumba twice a week as an after school program at my school, and it is awesome!

HA! That petting chart is amazing. I haven't seen that before. And that review/advice about the Janet books is spot on. Good call. And few things equal the level of frustration of writing detailed sub plans and finding that none of them were used. UGH.
I'm sorry about your mom's house, what a difficult task. And sub plans ARE the worst, I went to school for education and when I was student teaching and had to be out a couple of days, even my supervising teacher didn't follow mine! haha And thanks for sharing that petting chart, EXACTLY mirrors my cat.

As an elementary teacher, I concur that writing sub plans is awful. If I take the morning off, I lose my prep period, but there's not much to plan for. If I take the afternoon off, I get my prep in the morning, but I have like 4-5 subjects to plan for the afternoon. It's not the plans so much as it is getting posters/materials/STUFF ready and leaving plenty of "contingency plans". The last sub I had didn't know how to do division. That was 2 weeks ago and I'm still re-teaching long division.
(I usually throw in at least one video if I'm out for a whole day.)

i hate writing sub plans!! at least by now though I have a few subs that I trust and know they will do what I leave and don't have to write out pages and pages and pages since they are used to my room. how fun that you teach zumba!
As an elementary teacher, writing sub plans is a form of torture. It is especially awful if you know that the sub coming in for you is clueless and/or incompetent. It is also harder if you're a control freak like me. When that happens, I have to write almost every single detail (including things that should be common sense). Zumba is so fun...it doesn't feel like working out...just having a good time!
I'm so sorry about what happened at your mother's house. That must have been awful and just discouraging.
Sub plans suck. I teach second and just... they suck. Big time.
Yay for getting paid to do Zumba! I just started two weeks ago and LOVE it!
First, I love that petting chart. It's so spot-on!
Second, I have thought about how fun it would be to be a Zumba instructor, but I'm not sure I'm good enough. :-/
